Do you love the thrill of adventure? You probably gravitate toward anything that involves adrenaline and nature. Australia is full of beautiful and scenic places to explore. When people think of a holiday they often think of beach destinations, and for good reason. Waterside venues are among the most visited in the world, especially in Australia. These destinations provide a multitude of activities for trips with friends and family. Here are a few of the best waterside hotspots in Australia.
Cairns
Cairns is the ultimate in vacation destinations. Cairns boasts a variety of activities that can be enjoyed both in and out of the water at any time of day. With top-notch beaches, Cairns is great for the sport lovers who enjoy surfing, water skiing, and jet skiing alike. On top of this, many tour companies offer sightseeing adventures like whale and shark tours out on the open ocean.
Gold Coast
If you’re not a fan of sand, why not try somewhere that the water doesn’t lead directly to the beach? Water parks are a great destination in the hot summer months. The Gold Coast hosts numerous waterparks for great family fun for all ages. Not only is the Gold Coast home to many waterparks, but when you want to change it up, the beach is only a short distance away! It’s also perfect for extreme water sports like jet skiing to add a bit of adrenaline to your Gold Coast trip.
Noosa
The Sunshine Coast of Queensland is a beach lover’s dream come true. Not only is the coast home to some amazing sandy shores, but also numerous rivers and closed in bays. Noosa is a water-loving town that will satisfy anyone’s interests. Kayak down the Everglades, or surf on one of the beautiful beaches. Spend a weekend in November cheering on the elite triathletes who indulge in Noosa’s love of tri-sport races. Take a romantic walk along the beautiful walkways overlooking the canal.
Whitsundays
The Whitsundays is one of the most premier destinations in Australia. Home to the Great Barrier Reef, visitors are often overwhelmed by the beauty of the region and sheer number of activities that are available.
Fraser Island
Just off the Queensland coast, Fraser Island is a great resort location for any type of traveller. Listed as the largest sand island in the world, this island is great for those who want to relax on the beach or take in the stunning views of the rainforest. For those who enjoy a more tranquil swimming experience, Fraser also hosts a number of exquisite lakes that have unique characteristics of their own.
No matter your interests, you’re bound to find something the whole family will enjoy at Australia’s many waterside hotspots. What are your favourite waterside hotspots?

We really enjoyed our time in Cairns a few years ago. If we have a chance, I’d really like to visit the Whitsundays. I’ve heard such great things about it.
