Perth itinerary – CBD
A lot of people forget about Perth when visiting Australia as it is one of the most isolated cities in the world. We had friends coming over to Perth for a few days so it gave us the opportunity to think about a Perth itinerary to offer for tourists on a short stay. We truly have some great things going for us here in Perth and its not just stunning beaches and spectacular sunsets.
We recommended the Duxton Hotel for them to stay, one of Perth’s top quality hotels located right in the centre of town. The hotel foyer and entrance is pretty impressive with a lovely modern bar area to relax with a few drinks whilst waiting for friends. If you book a Club Room you get complimentary drinks and canapés in the Club Lounge for 2 hours each evening and complimentary continental breakfast each morning. The view overlooking the Swan River from the Club Lounge is truly stunning. A large glass mural of Christian Brothers College is featured in the elegant Lounge with stylish cow hide seats, glass tables and a large gold leafed coat of arms hangs outside the entrance. These represent the historical original site, first as Christian Brothers College and after demolition, the Australian Taxation Office prior to redevelopment as the Duxton Hotel.
There is a lot to include in your Perth itinerary right on the doorstep, the tranquil gardens of Government House, Stirling Gardens and Supreme Court Gardens. Nearby are Perth Concert Hall, Government House, Council House, Supreme Court, the Old Courthouse and the City of Perth Library. Being right in the city it is only short walk to the Hay Street mall, London Court, Bell Tower, Barrack Square Jetty, Elizabeth Quay and the Swan River. On the first day in town I would suggest a walk around and check all these out and then take a short bus ride to Kings Park.
No Perth itinerary would be complete without a stop at one of our many beautiful gardens. But why include just any garden, why not Perth’s best garden? Perth is home to Kings Park, a huge inner city park, larger than Central Park in New York and one of the largest in the world. Kings Park is a mix of natural bushland, grassed parklands and botanical gardens and a popular place for over 6 million visitors each year. Some of the many tourist facilities are the State War Memorial where the Anzac dawn service is held, and Honour Avenue where the verge is lined with eucalyptus trees and 1100 plaques honouring those who lost their lives during service. There is also the Bali Memorial dedicated to the victims, survivors and those who assisted in the Bali Bombings in 2002 and Jacob’s Ladder a set of 242 stairs and popular site for Perth residents to exercise each morning.
Showcasing an outstanding collection of Western Australian flora and a 750 year old boab tree from the Kimberley region of WA, Kings Park is a popular place for family picnics, walks, cultural and ceremonial events and an ideal location for weddings. Kings Park’s location overlooks Perth city and by day boasts panoramic views of the waters of the Swan River and the endless blue skies Perth is renowned for. At night the twinkling lights of the city is a stunning view. Kings Park is truly a place to admire, discover, enjoy and connect with the environment.
Alternatively, you might prefer to take a ferry ride across the iconic Swan River to South Perth to explore the beautiful foreshore.
You can then finish the afternoon with a quick visit to The State Theatre Centre of WA which has a theatre named in honour of Perth’s own, Heath Ledger. Here you can make a dazzling entrance across the lights on glass floor to the interior with its warm, inviting bronze box, a spectacular ceiling installation of 400 shimmering bronze aluminium stalactite like tubes. Nearby is the cultural centre, comprising of State Library, WA Museum, Art Gallery, Urban Orchard and a statue of Der Rufer, The Caller.
From here take a stroll around Northbridge and onto the Old Shanghai Food Hall or back to the Duxton for a more stylish meal at the Firewater Grille. Finally, if you can’t resist our stunning Perth sunsets are still feeling like seeing more I recommend an evening stroll back to Elizabeth Quay to capture a spectacular and unique experience to watch the sun set in the west.
Call it a night now and have a good nights’ sleep because tomorrow we a full day of sight seeing and a lot to fit in. So come back and we’ll share an itinerary for day two.

Perth definitely sounds like a great place to visit! I had no idea that it’s one of the most isolated cities in the world– you would never know just by looking at the photos. I’ll definitely have to plan a trip here!

True Jessica, looks are deceiving, but if you look at our proximity to the rest of the world you will see just how isolate we are. Thank you for your comment and I hope you get to experience Perth for yourself one day.
Lovely views of the city and so much there is to do here! I would love to visit!
It is beautiful Samiya, I am sure you would enjoy a visit.
When I was younger I was obsessed with windsurfing and Perth always seemed a great destination. Just never got that good;-)

Perth and surrounds is big on windsurfing, surfboarding or any water sports as we have some of the best beaches in the world and long periods of warm sunny days.
What exactly is a ‘Club Room’, Lyn? Is it like a superior room or a suite? I’m thinking they must be charging you somewhere for all the perks they are giving you… At any rate, Perth looks like a very attractive city. Too bad it’s so far from me.

Anda the rooms are Deluxe, Superior, Club, Suite or Presidential Suite. Club includes spacious large marble ensuite, slippers, robes, secure lift access to Club lounge on top floor, complimentary morning chaffeur transfer to CBD, etc. Perth is an amazing city and only a plane flight away, quicker and cheaper from LA than Perth to Paris so quite doable.
So many things to visit, Jacob’s Ladder sounds like a great idea! Did you try it out?

Suze, Jacob’s Ladder is not for the faint hearted. There is a healthy traffic congestion on the steps from all the fitness peeps where the uniform is tight lycra. The daily pilgrimage up and down can be seen by hundreds of fitness fanatics every morning or at lunchtime by the city office workers who take it seriously. Short answer, no 😀
I have been to Perth many times but I am clearly not seeing everything there is to see 🙂

Tim I have been here all my life and still not seen everything Perth has to offer.
I love your collection of images, and the way you laid them all out – visually impressive 🙂 Perth sounds like it has a lot to offer!

I visited Perth on one of the three trips I’ve made to Australia. And while I agree that there is definitely so much to see, it’s just soo darn far away!!!

I have never considered Perth before. Now I will. Thanks!
Carol I’m glad you have been converted, we have several other posts relating to Perth so please have a look.
I have to admit I have only been to the East Coast of Australia, but this post has made me think maybe I need to buy another plane ticket

Perth is isolated but quite a contrast and really worth the trip across Dannielle
Great one day itinerary for people visiting Perth. Especially love the bronze statues.

Thanks Ben, Perth has heaps of bronze statues scattered around, some old, some new.
I’ve wanted to go to Perth since I was a kid. Admittedly a lot of that used to be based on a grade school crush on Heath Ledger, but adult me would like to go see Perth in it’s own right. Like you said though, it is quite isolated. I just wish it were easier to get to from the states!

Mags Perth has so much to offer, we love it here and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed despite the long flight to get here.
