Reflection, my travel partner through life

Today isn’t our anniversary, but while I reveal a little about my travel partner and reflect on our time together, I will share some photos we’ve taken on our travels.

Who’d think it was thirteen years ago that we declared our love in the company of our two best friends, four beautiful nieces, and our closest friends and family.

I can’t believe those years have passed so quickly. Just like on New Year’s eve when you reflect on the year past, today I look back on the journey Steve and I have shared so far. What have we learnt, achieved and accomplished? Is he a great travel partner and still the man of my dreams?

He doesn’t judge me

Well Steve isn’t perfect, and neither am I, but he’s perfect for me. He makes me smile, in fact we laugh a lot. Steve’s great listener, which is just as well, because I’m a great talker. But he is the perfect travel companion, if I’m stressed he calms me, if I’m sad he cheers me, if I’m lost he finds me.

She lets me be me

What I love about our relationship is how we continue to learn more about each other. We’ve had some learning curves with a few fights, stresses and arguments, but together we’ve grown even closer.

From the day we met in 2003 we’ve been inseparable. We know each other so well, we know what that ‘little look’ means, we often finish each other’s sentence, and we’re unbelievably similar, yet so very different. His strengths are my weakness and I truly believe we complete each other.

Steve spoils me, and has bought me some wonderful presents over the years and he’s got really good taste. My first present was beautiful satin pyjamas, then a diamond ring, diamond earrings and many times had flowers delivered to work that have made the office girls jealous. But that’s not to imply he’s always given me expensive things. This year for our anniversary we merely cracked a bottle of pink Moscato and chinked glasses with a toast to us and our new home!

We’ve travelled over 30 countries as man and wife, and shared some incredible experiences throughout those journeys. I’ve loved having Steve as my travel partner, my husband, and my best friend, sharing the experiences, and carrying my bags.

From our first travel, a cruise to Asia for our honeymoon, to Christmas in Vienna, to a scenic train trip on Bernina Express from Switzerland to Italy followed by a stay in a 17th century villa in Milan. We’ve even travelled the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok in a longboat and shared lots of wonderful travel experiences. And I can tell you, despite only beginning our travels at 50, we don’t plan stopping yet.

But needless to say spending so much time together hasn’t always been a fairy tale. We’ve fought, we’ve forgiven, we’ve laughed til we’ve cried and shed tears of sorrow. But we’ve done it all together.

So thank you Steve for all that you are and all that you do. I’ve also loved the small things too, like sharing a toastie while watching the Sunday night movie. Those are the little moments when I know that I’ve married the right man.

I’m so looking forward to the years ahead, filled with smiles, laughs, good times, happy memories and course many more journeys together.

  1. […] March was a time for family reflection. First our 7th wedding anniversary had me writing a post about my travel partner through life. […]

  2. […] For us, travelling with each other is a very rewarding experience and we wouldn’t swap our travel style as it is in itself a gift and reward of sharing unique experiences and spending time together. […]

  3. […] for a fun-filled break with your loved one? To hit just the right note between romantic and entertaining, Canberra is a fantastic location. […]

  4. […] But for this post I was asked to write about what makes my heart skip and makes me feel alive and for me that is not the food, but the company. You might notice all my pictures are food for two and that is where I find my comfort, sharing a meal with the one I love, my husband and my perfect travel partner. […]
