Vienna during Christmas, a memorable moment
When you only spend a short time in a location, where you stay is important, so is comfort. But when you travel at special times of the year, like Christmas, the location and comfort seem to be more important. We choose to stay at AccorHotels as they have a range of brands to suit each travellers’ style. We felt very privileged to be hosted for our stay in Vienna during Christmas at the luxurious MGallery Hotel Am Konzerthaus. MGallery is Accor’s luxury brand of boutique hotels that combines high-end luxury with unique culture and history. We were very happy we had planned three nights for our second visit to Vienna coinciding with Christmas. This location was perfect for us, near transport and close to the city’s musical and architectural treasures, some of the sites we would be visiting during our few days in Vienna.
Our arrival on Christmas Eve was the perfect start for a special Christmas for us, starting with the warm welcome, friendly faces and big smiles. Right from that moment we had a feeling this was going to be a wonderful stay. Check in was smooth and efficient which was great as we had arrived tired from our long train trip from Ljubljana. Being weary a comfortable bed is a must and as soon as we entered our room the first thing we checked out was the bed. We were so chuffed, the bed was dressed in high quality, crisp white linen, sumptuous feather pillows and looked very inviting with the gorgeous Gustav Klimt bedhead.
The room itself was spacious, tastefully decorated in elegant art nouveau style with calming neutral colour tones and had everything we needed, including a welcome gift of chocolates. As expected in a hotel of this standard we found a squeaky clean bathroom with a splash of bling of little gold tiles and a great selection of toiletries and lavish robe and slippers. Overall the room was lovely and had a very large window and as the hotel was situated on a corner we had a great outlook on the streets below. Along the window was a sofa, small table and a chair and larger table. We found the room very private too as the sleeping area of the room was not visible from the door, divided by a generous sized wardrobe with mirrored doors.
After we arrived and freshened up we rugged up and made our way outside to check out the area closeby. We were in the historic area of Vienna, near Concert Hall, State Opera, Karlskirche, Stadpark metro station and a short walk to the ring road surrounding the main city centre.
When we returned we found our bed had been turned down and along with the chocolates left on our pillows was information about the weather for the following day. It was the finishing touches like the appearance of bedside mats and a little tray on the sideboard with two cups, infusion teabags for a nightcap, ear plugs and eye masks that were laid out each evening that made us feel special and showed it was important to the hotel staff that guests feel at home. As our first day was done, we prepared for a comforting night’s sleep and we sunk into the luxurious bed, bliss after a long day’s sightseeing. It was nice that we had a Nespresso coffee machine and a kettle with a good selection of teas and coffee so we could prepare a morning bevvy before breakfast.
In the Morning we ventured downstairs where we were seated in the dining area which was very comfortable and elegant. We had a fantastic breakfast with very generous selection of breads, cooked foods, fresh fruits, cold meats, cheeses and cereals. We could also have eggs cooked to order. This was an extremely busy time of the year and we must praise the staff who did their best to keep up with demand of the hotels guests.
The dining area, Oskars Restaurant is a top class facility and the intimate bar with its timeless glamour pays homage to Orient Express with nostalgic décor. With its’ charm and atmosphere it was ideal spot to have a festive drink.
What a wonderful hotel at a peak time of the year and a special thank you to the Manager, Boris Braun for his hospitality, our stay was so much more amazing than we ever expected. Everyone at the hotel went out of their way to make our first Christmas in Vienna a very special time for us.
The superior service received enhanced our Viennese experience and provided a memorable moment that will stay with us for a long time. We couldn’t have been more content with the quality of both the service and the hotel amenities and loved the finishing touches like the piped sound from the TV to the bathroom and the good selection of teas. We also loved the décor, like the art nouveau cornices around the room, the huge gold Klimt headboard and the tasteful elegance of little gold tiles in the bathroom.

*Our stay at MGallery Hotel AM Konzerthaus was complimentary, but as always, all opinions are our own.
I saw this hotel some movies, truly, it’s beautiful and seems like you’re having a grateful stay. Well, it’s my pleasure to stay in a place like Vienna too.
What an important day for them to get right. So glad they did. What a lot of thoughtful touches. Love that headboard too!

Lyn, that looks to be a luxurious hotel, one that I would fancy staying in myself. I think the hotel matches the city, because Vienna has always seemed to be a high class place as well.

I am ready to check in just for the Gustav Klimt headboard! That is awesome!! And yeah, the rest of the hotel looks pretty nice, too. 🙂 As others have noted, the weather outlook is great – I love it when a hotel has little touches like that to help travelers along the way.

That hotel looks fabulous. The bed looks so comfortable. The size is pretty good if you consider how small the rooms in European hotels tends to be (at least in the hotels I have stayed).
Wow! This surely was luxury at its best. I’ve only spent one night in Vienna and it was in a very bad hotel. At the time money was really tight and we couldn’t afford anything else. Reading about your experience makes me want to go back and stay a few nights at such a nice hotel.

Weather information for the next day is such a clever idea! We spent ages trying to find a channel with a weather report during our stay in Queenstown (no free wi-fi in the hotel rooms!)
