What a weekend!
How many times have I heard from locals and visitors that Perth is boring? Come on people, open your eyes and have a closer look at what’s on offer.
This weekend we weren’t stuck for choices and simply ran out of time. Locally, we had the Community Market at Bakers House, the Bickley Harvest Festival, the Honey Festival and the Perth Garden Festival and of course lunch at Rustico Tapas with some good friends. The previous weekend was similar and the additional day for the ANZAC long weekend didn’t make our choices any easier.
Recently the City of Perth had their Night Noodle Markets and the big bunnies in the park. If you don’t mind getting sand between your toes, Cottesloe has the annual event, Sculptures by the Sea. City of Fremantle celebrated another Street Arts Festival with local and international street performers and hosted the biggest Chilli Festival in the world.
The event calendar for the next few months is very hectic, the Minnawarra Festival in Armadale, Fremantle’s Heritage Festival and Perth’s Autumn Festival, just to name a few. I’ve found a very informative site, Weekend Notes that’s regularly updated with events within the Perth metro area. They have made planning very easy with events listed by month and by category. The additional of a visual calendar should make planning the month simpler.
Who likes food? Perth is not lacking in this area with a great selection of eateries and restaurants. We recently visited Maya Indian Restaurant in Fremantle, Merrywell at Crown Burswood, Rustico Tapas in Rockingham and of course a lazy Sunday visit to the Core Cider House in Pickering Brook. Pickering Brook is a nice 40 minute drive up into the Darling Ranges, an easy drive in a Land Rover New Discovery Sport.
Recently, Princess Cruises announced they would be basing some of their vessels at Fremantle Port. This was great news and we took the opportunity to do a 4 day cruise to Albany and back. The cruise included one other stop and that was to Busselton where we disembarked and took a day trip with Margie’s Big Day Out visiting some wineries, breweries, chocolate, cheese makers and magnificent a Ploughman’s lunch included.
So go on, open your front door and take a step towards your next excitement filled weekend.

I went to Solvang, CA over the weekend — the Danish capitol of the U.S. Loved the opportunity to soak in the Scandinavian ambience only hours from my home!

Oh I have never heard of Solvang, I will have to have a read, thanks for sharing and thanks for your comment Tami.
I certainly wouldn’t mind visiting Perth! Not sure if it will ever happen, but with all those festivals, it does look like there’s plenty to do!
Jolanta aka Casual Traveler recently posted…How much can you see in three-and-a-half days in Quebec City?
Jolanta as well as the festivals we have all the essential ingredients for an amazing holiday, endless beaches, ocean sunsets, pop-up everything from bars, to farmer’s markets to cinemas, new shopping, dining and lively cultural precincts, cool bars in heritage buildings, fresh local produce, our very own wine region and not a cloud in the sky sunny days for a good part of the year.
Wow! Festival central! So many fun things to do. But I love the sound of your cruise. Such a great opportunity to try it out over a few days. Thanks so mch for linking up with #wanderlust

Kirralee Perth really does have so much to see and do, a weekend is not enough time. The cruise was a great chance to revisit some of our favourite places in WA. Thanks for the chance to link up with #wanderlust.
So glad I found your site and this post! Sounds like a great weekend.
I visited WA last June. Australia’s always been on my bucket list and I LOVED it (stayed in Perth and road tripped up to Exmouth). I’ve been in touch with some companies and am planning to come on a work visit the end of this year/beginning of 2016. Want to stay in WA but travel around Australia more for sure. Would love to connect when I sort that out. Check out my site, which launched last week http://www.adjustyourfocus.net.
Alyssa it makes us happy to hear you made it to our home city and plan coming back. The rest of Australia also has so much to offer. If you want to read more about an Australian roadtrip check out Ytravel blog. We would be more than happy to connect 🙂
Thank you! Perth is lovely. Yes, I have been following Ytravel blog. Looking forward to connecting 🙂

Sometimes we find ourselves dreaming about lovely destinations half way around the world, and forget about the places just outside our front doors. We hope to spend the summer investigating some of the great places closer to home. Just last weekend we visited a nearby kangaroo farm… that was only a few hours away… in BC, Canada! Sometimes we dont realize the amazing things we have nearby!

That is true of a lot of people, this last year we have spent a lot more time exploring our neighborhood and actually stopping and seeing things. It has been really good seeing what’s been out there with new eyes.
weekend is just my thing:) there are still many people who don’t take advantage of all the great things that you can find locally, so we need to keep reminding them:) I just started a weekend series myself – in Boston;(as if my blog’s name was not enough reason to celebrate the weekend:)

It doesn’t take much to find things to do here in Perth. Two of our major centres, Perth and Fremantle regularly have food and art festivals through out the year. If you ever visit Perth check out visitfremantle.com.au and visitperth.com.au for an update list of events.
Wow – sounds like loads of fun! I love those weekends that leave you feeling like you need another weekend to squeeze everything in! Wish we could make to Perth to indulge, but at least now we know this might be a good time of year to visit. Thanks for sharing!

Perth sounds fascinating–not boring at all. I’d love to be able to visit some day.
